Maha Shivrati, a festival that celebrates the convergence of Lord Shiva and his shakti (powers). It is one of the most biggest festivals in Hinduism which is celebrated with the immense devotion and religious ebullience. On the festival of Shivratri, devotees offer Vilvam leaves, Bhaang, Coconut, fruits, water, milk and other things to Lord Shiva and keep a day long fast. The literal meaning of ‘Shivratri’ is ‘The Night of Lord Shiva’. As per the Hindu Calendar, the festival is celebrated dark fortnight or Krishna Paksha at the 13th night or 14th day of the month Maagha or Phalguna (February or March according to the English calendar) to worship Shiva Lingam to make happy the Lord Shiva.
