Two kidnappers held, one killed, mastermind still at large

Two fugitives, who were on the run after pocketing Rs 1,000,000 ransom following the abduction of a businessman, have been arrested.The duo were involved in the abduction of Kathmandu’s Makhhangalli-based sari shop owner Shyam Sundar Agrawal, 62, on February 16, police investigation revealed. Metropolitan Police Crime Division arrested and made public Kishor Giri, 24, and Saroj Ghorasaini, 27. However, the mastermind of the crime Prakash Lamichhane, 28, of Bageshwori, Bhaktapur, is still at large.

Police said Lamichhane’s girlfriend Radhika Shrestha, of Dhading, had assisted in the abduction. But police investigation has discovered that he murdered her, fearing that she would divulge the secret.Radhika’s rotten body was found from a ditch at Muhanpokhari of Bhaktapur on March 3. Lamichhane, Giri, and Ghorasini, with assistance from Shrestha, who was murdered on February 5, had abducted businessman Agrawal on February 5.
Police said the gang had taken Rs one million in ransom after Agrawal’s abduction. Agrawal was taken hostage at Sundhara-based Sunrise Guest House until he was released after paying the ransom amount.
