The United Democratic Madheshi Front (UDMF) enforced Madhesh shutdown today has affected daily life in Parsa and Siraha besides Saptari district. The shutdown has been called today in protest of the announcement of local bodies’ election by the government on May 14. Normal life has been thrown out of gear as the market places, industries, schools and colleges, and financial institutions have remained completely closed both in those districts. Furthermore, no vehicles are plying on the local roads and along the East-West highway. Cadres have been demonstrating at various market places and thoroughfares at Lahan, Golbazar and Mirchaiya among other places in Siraha. The UDMF has claimed that the government deceived them by announcing the date of the local body’s election without considering amendment in the new constitution amendment bill. In Parsa district, although long and short route transport service, educational institutions, factories and markets have been completely closed, press, ambulances, fire brigade, tourist buses and two-wheelers were seen plying unhindered. Meanwhile, agitating UDMF leaders and cadres have vandalized the house of CPN-UML leader Raghubir Mahaseth situated at Janakpur. -
